February 2025 minutes

Colorado River walkers

The February 2025 meeting of the Colorado River walkers was held on Sunday, February 9, at the Central Market Cafe.  President Carol O. called the meeting to order at 3:03 p.m.  Members presents were Stephanie K., Larry J., Carol O., Greg S., Wayne S., Taina S., Terry S., and Mary Z.

Larry moved approval of the minutes, Taina seconded, and the motion passed.  Terry S.  reported $1629.41 in the checking account. The YRE report was deferred. (Note: It has been added below.)

Carol passed out tentative directions for the Easton Park Walk on February 22, and she passed out the new membership list from Larry J.  We have 53 listings of members of whom 31 are lifetime members. Some listings are couples.  Mike McCormick now lives at the Triangle near our meeting place.

There is a 3-day weekend coming up in San Antonio February 14-16.  This is the last year for IML in San Antonio.  Wayne volunteered to take our new YRE flyers to the event.

Terry wrote an article for TAW on the Wild Ones special program at our YREs.  Since the article was written some new ones have been found.  There is a Wild One on our upcoming Easton Park Walk.  The Giving Tree store owner in Belton will keep a Wild One in her shop window for us.  The Belton YRE start point might be changing names.  The walk box there is in a closet at the back of the store.

The Easton Park Walk has two loops, a north loop and a south loop.  Carol will send a workers sign up list by email.  The workers’ schedule is being developed and has the following needs:

Parking lot duties: tell walkers that walking to start point counts as distance; take all you need from the car, but we will have a box at the start point for things walkers decide they don’t need; how to walk to the start point.  Bring a chair to sit there.  Wayne volunteered.

Registration table: Nancy M. at new walker station and start cards; then Stephanie checks registration, puts number on the card; Terry takes money.  Carol shows the maps and explains the routes.

Crossing guard: north loop crosses W. Cannon.  Crossing guard will have a stop sign.  There will be a checkpoint nearby with a table and a punch and a checklist for checking off the numbers of the walkers.

Sweeper: Greg.

The TVA meeting in March in Junction. If there is someone going, s/he can serve as our delegate at the TVA meeting on Saturday, March 8.

Our next traditional walk will be April 12.  There is a big country festival in Brushy Creek that day.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:09 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Terry Sullivan
