Easton Park Walk on Feb 22nd

Easton Park Walk on Feb 22nd

The Colorado River Walkers are hosting a walk in Easton Park this coming Saturday, February 22nd, with a start window from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.  Walkers should be finished by 2:00 pm.

Our Start/Finish will be at Skyline Park in the Easton Park community.  The park is located at 7800 Apogee Blvd, Austin, TX 78744. Above is a picture of the bridge leading to one of the playscapes at Skyline Park. The actual playscape itself is below.

Skyline Park also has a splash pad, swings, and some really interesting things for kids to climb on.

There isn’t a lot of parking available at Skyline Park, so walkers will park across the street (across Apogee Blvd) in the parking lot of Newton Collins Elementary School.  It is 0.4 km from the school parking lot to the walk Start/Finish at Skyline Park, and the distance from the parking lot and back is counted in the total distance.

Our walk consists of two loops, a South Loop and a North Loop:

  • The South Loop goes through neighborhoods and includes a hike and bike trail along a natural area.  This loop is the easier loop and has qualifiers for two additional Special Programs, “Walking with America’s Veterans” and “Walking with the Wild Things.” There is a plaque commemorating the military service of Kieke family members at Kieke Park. Below is a photo of the gargoyle on the South Loop. He’s the resident “Wild Thing,” hanging out in a bird bath with his friends.
  • The North Loop also goes through some neighborhoods and along some hike and bike trails.  Additionally, it goes by The Union amenity center, around Union Lake, across Cotton Mouth Creek, and up to Lookout Point at Knob Hill Park.  This is the slightly more challenging loop because of the climb up to Lookout Point.

Below are a few pictures from the North Loop. First is a view of the back of The Union amenity center.

Below is an egret at Union Lake.

Both loops qualify for the “Par-For-The-Course” Special Program. There are playgrounds all over this community!

The weather is predicted to be chilly, so dress accordingly!
