It’s hot out there, and the Texas sun is blazing! Our good friend and walking buddy, Charley Watt Jr., took this beautiful picture near his home last month, and it seemed appropriate to share it here. He is a talented photographer!
Colorado River Walkers
August 16, 2026 Meeting Minutes
The August meeting of the CRW at the Central Market Café was called to order by Terry S. at 3:05 pm. Members present were: Nellie A, Carolyn D, Kathy F, Mike F, Larry J, Stephanie K, Carol O, Charles R, Mary D, Rosie P and Terry S. Larry moved and there was a unanimous vote to accept the July minutes as written. Carolyn gave the treasurer’s report and reported current checking account amount of $1666.04, as of July 31. There was no YRE report because there were no walkers in the hot month of July.
Stephanie designed and distributed business cards with CRW contact information, and members were informed that they could carry these cards when walking to let people know about the club. Stephanie is organizing the next traditional walk, scheduled for September 26 at McKinney Falls State Park and she has contacted park personnel to secure the date. She distributed the workers’ walk sign-up sheet, and the date of the workers’ walk will be announced later.
On Labor Day, September 7, Terry will staff a featured YRE at the Pflugerville YRE. The start point will be the parking lot of the Pflugerville Recreation Center between 7 and 10 a.m.
Terry updated the arrangements for the November 13-15 TVA meeting in Georgetown, to be hosted by CRW. The Best Western Plus Inn and Suites will hold a block of discounted hotel rooms for the TVA meeting (see blurb below, scheduled to be published in TAW). The November 13 walk will be an afternoon featured YRE at Round Rock; the Saturday featured YRE will be in Georgetown, beginning at the convention hotel; and Sunday’s traditional event will be at Berry Springs Park and Preserve. Carolyn and Terry will develop the trail, and Carol provided the information from earlier events there in 2013 and 2022.
The YRE renewals are due by August 31. Terry provided information on YRE participation for the past 18 months. Because there have been no participants in the Brushy Creek bike event, Terry proposed that we no longer sanction that event. She previously consulted with Charles R., the current POC, and with Doug E., who had been instrumental in starting the bike event. A motion was made and unanimously passed. Stephanie will renew the other nine YREs. The club discussed the two new 2027 Special Programs for AVA, craft brews and historic churches. Stephanie had compiled a list of possible qualifiers.
The meeting adjourned at 4:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Stephanie Knight
Acting Secretary
