Gonzales Walk on Oct 19th

Gonzales Walk on Oct 19th

The San Antonio Pathfinders walking club is hosting a new walk in Gonzales this coming Saturday, October 19th.  Charley Watt Jr. designed the walk, and it is the “Historic Gonzales, Texas and Independence Park Walk.”

We’ve all enjoyed volksmarches in the historic town of Gonzales over the years, and we’re excited about this brand new walk route that also includes scenic trails in Independence Park just south of Gonzales. Pictured above is the 1925 Hydro-Electric Plant and Dam located at the edge of the park. It is the first checkpoint on the walk route.

The walk starts in Independence Park, which borders the banks of the Guadalupe River.  The walking trails in the park have beautiful views of the river and green spaces in the park. Below is a picture of the Guadalupe River above the dam, taken from the kayak dock. This photo, as well as the others in this post, was taken by Charley Watt Jr.

The walk start point is at the Gonzales Little League Baseball Field in Independence Park.  To reach the park coming from the north side of Gonzales on US 183, continue heading south on US 183 through the intersection with Alt US 90.  Drive around 1.8 miles, and then turn right into the park entrance.  Follow the AVA signs to the parking lot by the baseball fields.

Like the sign says, Come Walk With Us! The start window is from 9:00 AM to Noon, and walkers must be finished by 3:00 PM. We hope that you can join us in exploring this new park and visiting historical sites in the city of Gonzales!

The walk route consists of two 5k loops. Walkers may choose between them or walk both loops for a 10k walk.  Please see the walk brochure below for all of the details.
