Colorado River Walkers
February 8, 2026 Meeting Minutes
President Carol O called the February 2026 meeting of the Colorado River Walkers to order at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 8, in the Central Market cafe on North Lamar.
Members present were Linda D., Mike F., Kathy F., Stephanie K., Larry J., Carol O., Lisa R., Greg S., Wayne S., Terry S., Rosie W., and Mary Z.
Carol thanked members for walking the Capital YRE to find corrections needed in the directions. Because of the three-day event weekend coming up in San Antonio/Fredericksburg, we expect more visitors to pass through Austin. The Capital YRE typically attracts visitors. Stephanie will make any needed corrections for the directions.
The treasurer’s report was $1189.90 at the beginning of the month of January and $1180.90 as of January 31. We had 12 walkers for our flash Round Rock YRE in January. The major expense in January was $115 to AVA for fourth quarter YRE participation.
Linda gave the YRE report since our last meeting:
Historic Capital: 3
Lady Bird Lake: 2
Fairview: 2
Cedar Park: 2
Round Rock: 12
Pflugerville: 1
Salado: 1
(23 walkers with 2 coupons)
Stephanie will be updating the points of contact for our YREs on the AVA online site.
Carol passed around the flyer Stephanie developed for the walk on February 28. The club will hold a Featured YRE for the Cedar Park YRE on February 28. Stephanie talked about a new part of the walk in Twin Lakes Park that she and Terry developed. The checkpoint will be at the 10K turnaround and a 15K will also be available. We passed around the sign-up sheet for workers. There was a discussion about directions to the labyrinth, which is located at the 10K turnaround in Lake Creek Park.
Next weekend (February 13) there is a traditional walk at the Del Webb community near San Antonio. The following weekend is the three-event weekend with walks in Fredericksburg and San Antonio.
We are presenting a traditional walk on April 18, which occurs during Rails to Trails month. We need to decide on a location for this walk. The Austin-Manor trail has recently opened a new section, and it qualifies as a Rails to Trails project. The Violet Crown path is also a possibility. A new bridge has opened across Lady Bird Johnson Lake near Longhorn Dam, which offers another possibility.
The meeting was adjourned at 3 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Terry Sullivan
Secretary-Treasurer
