Meeting Minutes December 2025

Colorado River Walkers

December 14, 2025 Meeting Minutes

President Carol O called the December 2025 meeting of the Colorado River Walkers to order at 3:08 pm on Sunday, December 14, in the Central Market cafe on North Lamar.

Members present were Larry J, Stephanie K, Carol O., Greg S., Terry S. , Rosie W, and Mary Z.  We welcomed Rosie, who is back in Austin for a few months.

The minutes were accepted. The checking account as of December 1 was $1272.80.  In November we had two successful events: the Hornsby Bend traditional event had 59 walkers and the Opt Outside event after Thanksgiving had 17 walkers.

Terry gave the YRE Report for Linda Dennis.  The November attendance was:

Historical Capitol 1

Fairview 1

Pflugerville 19 (plus a baby who did not pay)

Brushy Creek 2

Georgetown  1

Terry is becoming POC for the Pflugerville YRE. Carol thanked Terry for the Opt Outside and Stephanie for the website and her work at Hornsby Bend.

In announcements, Carol noted the recent death of longtime member Mary Blackstock. Carol distributed the 2026 Volkssports calendar for Texas.  There is an AVA webinar on Wednesday, December 17,  at 7 pm, which anyone may join. Carol and Terry passed around flyers for some upcoming multi-event weekends.

TAW comes out quarterly and Checkpoint comes out monthly, and both have many pictures.  Carol encouraged members to send photos of our club’s activities for either publication.

Because 2026 is an anniversary year for the USA and for the AVA, there will be two new special programs.  The AVA has one special program for a set of walks across the country, and only those walks count.  For the Anniversaries Hurrah program (which is being run by the Colorado Springs club), any club with an AVA charter number below 100 (we are 77) can qualify any of its 2026 walks for their new Anniversaries booklet.  Also, our Historic Capital walk and Lady Bird Johnson Lake walks qualify based on their original founding dates.  All of our walks in 2026, both traditional and YREs, will qualify for Anniversaries Hurrah. We will need to note this fact in our publicity and directions.

Individual givers to the Big Give will receive in the mail two coupons good for any YRE, seasonal, or traditional event.

Greg reported on the Johnson City walk.

February 28 is our next traditional event, followed by April 18.  Terry and Stephanie will investigate a Featured YRE for February 28 using our Travis Heights YRE. Bee Cave is a good possibility for the April 18 walk, and Carol showed a map of Bee Cave featuring the sculpture garden, a park, and a new protected pedestrian light to cross Highway 71.

Pizza, fruit, and pastries were provided to celebrate the holidays.

The walk was adjourned at 4:08 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Terry Sullivan
