The Colorado River Walkers are hosting a walk in Easton Park this coming Saturday, April 12th, and it should be great walking weather. This is our “Easton Park in Springtime” walk.
Our Start/Finish for the walk will be at Newton Collins Elementary School, 7609 Apogee Blvd, Austin, TX 78744. Walkers will park at the Elementary school, register, and pay the fee. Then they will walk 0.4 km to Skyline Park to receive the maps and directions for the walk.
Please note that the bathrooms will not be open at the Elementary school; however, there are restrooms available at Skyline Park. This is about a quarter of a mile from the Start/Finish at the school. The walk start window is between 8:00 and 11:00 am, and walkers must finish by 1:00 pm. The picture above was taken from Skyline Park, and you can just see the Austin city skyline in the distance.
We are happy to announce that there will also be a Friends of Nature Market going on at Skyline Park on the same day from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with vendors and workshops. Please see the flyers below for more information.

The workshops schedule is below.

Our walk this Saturday consists of the same walk routes that we used at our Feb 22nd Easton Park walk.
There are two loops, a South Loop and a North Loop:
- The South Loop goes through neighborhoods and includes a hike and bike trail along a natural area. This loop is the easier loop and has qualifiers for two additional Special Programs, “Walking with America’s Veterans” and “Walking with the Wild Things.” Below are a few pictures of wild things seen on this route.
First is the little gargoyle on Looksee Lane.

Also at the same house is a little fairy door with fairies and toadstools.

We also recently saw this little garden gnome on Corrigan Pass, shortly before it dead ends at Skytex Street.

- The North Loop also goes through some neighborhoods and along some hike and bike trails. Additionally, it goes by The Union amenity center, around Union Lake, across Cottonmouth Creek, and up to Lookout Point at Knob Hill Park. This is the slightly more challenging loop because of the climb up to Lookout Point.
Here are a few recent pictures of Cottonmouth Creek. First a view on one side of the concrete hike and bike trail:

And the other side…

Both loops qualify for the “Par-For-The-Course” Special Program. There are playgrounds all over this community!
Please see our walk brochure below for all the details.
