The San Antonio Pathfinders Volkssport Club will be hosting a traditional walk at the San Pedro Creek Culture Park on Saturday, October 3rd. The park is located just north of the San Antonio River Walk area. It is a beautiful park that combines art, history, culture, and natural beauty. The picture above was taken by Deb Peak along San Pedro Creek in February of 2023, when this area was included in one of the Olympiad walks.
The Start/Finish is at a pavilion in the Piazza Italia Park, which is in front of San Francesco di Paola Catholic Church, 299 Piazza Italia Park, San Antonio, Texas 78207.
Right next to the church is the Christopher Columbus Society building, at 679 Columbus St., San Antonio, TX 78207. PARKING will be at the Christopher Columbus Society Parking lot in back of that building. Use spaces along the fence marked “San Pedro Creek Visitor Parking.”
It is a short walk to the San Pedro Creek Culture Park from the walk Start/Finish.
The start window is from 7:45 to 10:00 AM, and walkers should be finished by 1:30 PM.
Julen Navarette from the San Antonio River Authority will lead a GUIDED WALK at 8:00. Bexar County and the San Antonio River Authority started the reconstruction and beautification of the creek in 2017 and finished the last phase in May 2025. The purposes were for prevention of severe flooding, to create a world class linear park representing the cultural identity of the city, art and nature.
At 9:00 AM, Lionel and Kathy Sosa will be available on the creek walk to give a talk on their five-panel mural “Glorious Story of the San Pedro”.
Please see the walk brochure below for more details.
