McKinney Falls State Park Walk on Sep 26th

McKinney Falls State Park Walk on Sep 26th

The Colorado River Walkers will be hosting a traditional walk on Saturday, September 26th, at McKinney Falls State Park in southeast Austin. The picture above was taken recently at the Upper Falls in the park.

The park is located at 5808 McKinney Falls Parkway, Austin, TX 78744.  Our walk start point will be at the Smith Visitor Center in the park.  The start window is from 8:30 to 11:30 AM, and walkers should be finished by 2:30 PM.

Please note that the Smith Visitor Center does not open until 9:00 AM, so restrooms will not be available at the Start/Finish until then. There are restrooms open at the headquarters at the entrance to the park. Also, if you take the first right after entering the park (towards the Lower Falls), there are restrooms open on the left just past the playground.

The park is a serene spot, even though it is so close to the city.  Please plan to arrive early to walk in the cooler morning hours, and bring a walking stick since the walking surfaces out to the Lower Falls and around the rock shelter and Old Baldy are uneven and rocky. Below is another picture taken just below the Upper Falls.

Also, to be assured of entry, make your day use reservation in advance.  The link to make a reservation and more information is in the walk brochure below.
