The Colorado River Walkers will be hosting a walk on the southwest side of Austin on Saturday, April 18th. We will be walking the Violet Crown Trail, which is a well-groomed hike and bike trail that goes through shady forests, creek valleys, and suburban green spaces.
The walk start point is the parking lot of Walgreens at 5011 West Slaughter Lane, Austin, TX 78749. Right by the Walgreens is one of the Violet Crown trail heads on the southern part of the trail.
We will have two 5k loops, one heading south to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, and one heading north to Dick Nichols District Park. The route is primarily on the crushed granite surface of the Violet Crown Trail and on concrete walkways and sidewalks.
Walkers with a start card can get into the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and go just far enough to visit the Gift Shop and use the restroom. They will get to see the beautiful entrance and see the resident owl! Below is the entrance. Athena the owl is nesting in the planter that is top center in this photo.

Below is a closeup of Athena. This is her 16th year to return to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center to nest.

The Violet Crown Trail is well marked with purple sign posts, as seen in the picture below.

The walk start window is between 8:00 am and 11:00 am, and walkers must finish by 2:00 pm.
We hope that you can join us! For more details, please see the walk brochure below.
