Save the Date!  Hornsby Bend Walk on Nov 22nd

Save the Date!  Hornsby Bend Walk on Nov 22nd

The Colorado River Walkers will be hosting a walk on the southeast side of Austin on Saturday, November 22nd.  The walk start point is the Center for Environmental Research at Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant, 2210 South FM 973, Austin TX 78725.

The walk start window is between 8:00 am and 11:00 am, and walkers must finish by 2:00 pm.  There is a 10k route and a 5k route available, both rated 1B, on asphalt and dirt roads and dirt walking trails.  The trails are uneven in spots, so a walking stick may be helpful.

The photos in this post are provided courtesy of Carol Obianwu.  She has led several exploratory walks at Hornsby Bend in recent years.  The one above shows Hal and Jean B. and Mike F. on the River Trail in April of 2024.  The next few were taken in January of 2022. Jean Bogardus took the picture of Carol O. below with the Colorado River behind her.

Next is a view of the River Trail.

Finally, a shot of one of the ponds which attract many migratory birds each year.

We are excited to be sharing this new walk with you.  In addition to enjoying the peaceful walking trails by the Colorado River and (hopefully!) seeing some wildlife, you’ll learn about the important work being done by the Center for Environmental Research and the valuable recycling being done onsite at the Biosolids Management Plant.

More to come later, but for all the details, please see the walk brochure below.
