Art and Parks at Mueller Walk on Sep 27th

The Colorado River Walkers are hosting a walk in Austin on Saturday, September 27th.  We will be revisiting the Mueller Neighborhood, focusing on public art and the many pocket parks at Mueller.

The photo above was taken on the walk route. It shows the most recent statue created by Dixie Friend Gay at Mueller.  It is a giant octopus named “Ocho,” and it is located in Jessie Andrews park.  This is one of about ten parks that walkers will pass on the walk, and a nice feature is that many of the parks have restrooms. Thankfully (or not?), this is the only one with a giant octopus lurking on top.

Walkers will park at the Salvation Army Austin Citadel Corps parking lot, 4700 Manor Rd, Austin, TX 78723.  Then they’ll walk a short distance to the Start/Finish, with restrooms nearby at the Mueller Skate Park, 3601 Zach Scott St, Austin, TX 78723.

The walk start window is between 8:00 am and 11:00 am, and walkers must finish by 2:00 pm.  There is a 10k route and a 6k route available, both rated 1A, on cement and crushed granite trails.

Below is a mural that is inside the Blue Lacy restaurant, near the checkpoint.

The 6k route is primarily on pretty residential streets, many of which are shaded.  The 10k walkers also walk on a greenbelt and pass through a commercial area.  They see the sculpture below at Dell Children’s Hospital by Don Davis, entitled “Let’s Play.”

It’s a lovely walk, so we hope that you can join us!

Please see the walk brochure below for the details.
