The AVA National office is facilitating the Tour de las Misiones walk in San Antonio on Saturday, September 6th, in conjunction with the World Heritage Festival.
The festival is an annual event celebrating the San Antonio Missions, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The picture of the Hot Wells ruins above was taken on this walk in September of 2021.
Walk Start Point and Time
- The walk Start/Finish is at the Mission County Park Pavilion located at 6030 Padre Drive, San Antonio, TX 78214. In addition to the walk, there is a bike ride and a run on that same day.
- The event starts at 7:00 AM, and the group walk starts at 7:30 AM.
Walk Routes
Participants will enjoy a 5K or 10K walk through the scenic San Antonio River Walk. The 5K route goes by Mission San Jose, travels along part of the Mission Reach segment of the San Antonio River Walk, and goes through Hot Wells Park. It is primarily on pavement and is rated 1A.
Below is the mill behind Mission San Jose.
The 10K route follows the same route as the 5K, with the addition of a stretch along the Acequia Trail of the Mission Reach, which is packed dirt and gravel. This makes it difficult for strollers or wheelchairs, so it is rated 1B.

Registration
You can register online at the event website.
- Participants who registered for the event by August 18th are guaranteed a finisher’s medal, collectible T-shirt, goodie bag, and more. Also, there will be music and complementary food and beverages after the event for all registered participants.
- Online registration for the walk will still be available through 11:59 PM CDT on September 5th, but there is no guarantee of the event t-shirt, bag, or commemorative collateral for those who register after August 18th.
- Walk up registration is also available from 5:30 to 7:00 AM on the day of the walk at the walk start point.
Walk Fees
- The fee for the walk is $40.00 for adults 18 and older, and $20.00 for youth 13 to 17. There is also a $3.50 signup fee. It is free for youth 12 and under.
