The Hill Country Volkssportsverein walking club will be featuring their Bandera YRE walk this coming Saturday, June 28th. The picture above was taken on this walk in May of 2023, by Martin Callahan. Talk about Cowboy charm, Bandera truly is the Cowboy Capital of Texas!
A special event is also occurring in Bandera that day, a traveling Smithsonian exhibit, which walkers may view. It is the world-renowned Smithsonian Institute’s Museum on Main Street Crossroads: Change in Rural America, and it will be in Bandera from June 21 to July 26, 2025.
The Main Exhibit location will be at Bandera Middle School, 1005 Cherry Street, Bandera, TX,. It will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday from 12 to 4 pm. This is a unique opportunity to see this historic town and delve into the heritage of rural America.
About Saturday’s walk:
- The walk start point will be at the usual YRE start, the Bandera County Convention and Visitors Bureau, 126 Highway 16, Bandera, Texas.
- Club members will be there from 7:00 am to 9:00 am to register walkers, collect the $4.00 fee, stamp books, and hand out maps and directions.
- There will be a manned water stop until 10:00 am located near where the 5K and 10K split and a short distance from the Main Exhibit location.
