Meeting Minutes May 2025

The picture above was shared by Terry Sullivan from the group walk of our Round Rock Year Round Event on Saturday, May 17th. The walk was well attended despite the hot weather!

May 2025 Minutes

Colorado River Walkers

The May 2025 meeting of the Colorado River Walkers was called to order on Monday, May 12, at the Central Market Cafe.  President Carol Obianwu called the meeting to order at 6:04 pm.   The members present were Linda D, Larry J, Carol O, Greg S, Taina S, Wayne S, Terry S, and Rosie W.

It was moved and seconded that the minutes be accepted as written. The treasurer’s report showed $2093.73 in checking at the end of the month of April.  Linda gave the YRE participation report for April as follows:

Historic Capital YRE-7

Pflugerville-2

Round Rock-1

Cedar Park-1

Terry reported on the convention in Las Cruces, NM, which both she and Wayne from our club attended.  There were a number of well-planned walks, including White Sands National Park. The slate of nominees was elected to be board officers.  The proposal for individual memberships passed.  AVA no longer accepts Lifetime Memberships, although current Life Members will continue their benefits unchanged.  Springfield MO, Rogers AR, and Norman OK all made presentations to hold the next convention in 2027.

We have two walk dates for the fall: September 27 and November 22.   Carol has been investigating sites for the fall walks.  One possibility would be Mueller; we have done it twice but there are new sites within Mueller, including a new middle school, a plaza around the original airport tower, a skate park, and some new pocket parks.  Bee Caves is another, and it has a beautiful sculpture park.  The Galleria in Bee Caves is also walkable, and there is now a signal for crossing Highway 71.  The Hornsby Bend water purification site (Kevin Anderson, contact) is another possibility; it features good bird watching.  The Troll in Pease Park is a possibility, with parking at the ACC parking garage.

The whole summer is fairly open, but we have been doing Sunrise Walks in the summer as featured YREs. Terry is going to staff the Round Rock YRE on Saturday, May 17, between 9-11 am.  Round Rock has a new route that Carol designed.

Carol discussed updating the Salado YRE.  Wayne noted a lot of construction around Lady Bird Lake.  Carol will put a sign on the walk box downtown alerting walkers for the Lady Bird Lake YRE of the continuous construction along the trail.

Larry brought up the election of officers and whether we would meet in June.  When the convention was held in June, we did not meet in June. But now the convention has already been held.  We will have a June meeting to hold the elections.

Carol brought cupcakes to honor the memory of Greg Sells’ mother, who passed away shortly before our April meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Terry Sullivan
