January Meeting Minutes
The meeting of the Colorado River Walkers was called to order by President Carol O at 3:10 pm, January 12, 2025, at the Central Market Cafe. Members present were Mike F. and Kathy F., Larry J., Stephanie K., Carol O., Wayne S., Terry S., and Mary Z. Larry and Kathy received happy birthday wishes and Carol brought cookies for everyone.
Larry moved to accept the minutes as written. The treasurer’s report was read, and the club checking balance is $1591.41.
YRE report: the Capital and Fairview walks both have Wild Things special programs. The Pflugerville 2025 directions are finished, and it has a Wild Thing. Carol stressed that special programs are attractive to some walkers. There were 15 YRE walkers in December: Capital:2, Georgetown: 9, Belton: 3, Salado: 1. Kathy volunteered to take the new (2025) stamps to Brushy Creek. There are new registration log forms, but we are using the old forms. Altogether in 2024 we had 236 YRE walkers. Our best turnout in 2024 was with our group walks.
TAW is now only electronic. They are looking for articles and January 25 is the deadline.
Andy Thomas is developing a Southwest Region list of walks. We need to get our February 22 traditional walk listed.
Carol proposed Easton Park for the February 22 Walk. Carol passed out a map showing a preliminary trail of 3.71 KM. Wayne walked 10K in Easton Park. Wayne moved and Larry seconded that our February 22 Walk be at Easton Park. Because February mornings may be cold, we will plan for a later start time, perhaps 9 am. Carol will talk to the nearby elementary school concerning parking.
Terry explained the new Grouper RSVP program. This is a program that reimburses AVA for walks by its members, and AVA in turn reimburses the clubs. We have already had two RSVP walkers in 2025, but we don’t have a way to contact them.
