December 2024 Meeting Minutes

President Carol Obianwu called the December 2024 meeting of the Colorado River Walkers at 2:41 pm on December 8, 2024, at the Central Market Cafe.  Members present were Linda D., Sandy H., Stephanie K., Larry J., Carol O., Greg S., Taina S., Wayne S, Terry S., Mary Z.  We welcomed new members Wayne and Taina.

Larry provided the current membership list that Carol passed around for noting changes.

Linda moved and Stephanie seconded that the minutes be accepted as distributed. Motion passed.

In the treasurer’s report, Terry reported that the checking account balance on November 1 was $1198.41 and on November 30 it was $1634.41.

Linda reported that there were 31 YRE walkers in November as follows: Historic Capitol Walk, 1; Lady Bird Lake, 2, Round Rock, 13, Pflugerville 14, and Cedar Park 1.  Carol led a group walk at Round Rock and Terry led a group walk at Pflugerville. Carol noted that any member is welcome to organize a group walk.

Stephanie reported on the Bastrop Walk, which registered 70 paid walkers.  There were many compliments on the trail and Stephanie was thanked for all her hard work.

Terry reported on TVA meeting. Jill Troyer is the new TVA president, and Dave Roberts is vice-president.  The AVA convention will be in New Mexico April 28-May 2, 2025, with additional walks both before and after these dates.  Dates for CRW walks in 2025 are Feb 22, April 12, Sept 27, and Nov 22.  The TVA officers recommended that the Nov 22 Walk be a featured YRE because the date overlaps with the dates for the announced November 15-22 AVA cruise.

Carol will be changing YRE directions in the next three weeks.  If you spot a fairy, troll, gargoyle, or gnome on one of our trails, please let Carol know for the new special program on “Where the Wild Things Are.” Also, please report any directions that need changes because of construction or for better clarity.

Carol asked club members to think about walk sites for 2025. She suggested Creedmoor as a possible site where we have not previously walked.

The Southwest Region has awarded Carol the Commendable Service Award, and Terry presented Carol with her certificate.  All of the members present congratulated Carol.

To celebrate the holidays and to recognize Carol’s award, Stephanie provided pizza, Larry provided festive beverages, and Terry provided cookies.  The meeting was adjourned at 3:40 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Terry Sullivan
