Above is another picture from our workers’ walk in October for our upcoming walk in Bastrop State Park. Doug Eide took the photo and shared it with us. Left to right are Carolyn D., Dolores C., and Frank E. crossing the small bridge over Lake Mina.
November 2024 Meeting Minutes
The November meeting of the Colorado River Walkers was called to order on Sunday, November 3, 2024, by President Carol Obianwu at Central Market Cafe at 3:07 pm. Attendance: Linda D., Kathy F., Mike F., Stephanie K., Carol O., Terry S., Mary Z. The minutes were accepted as written. The treasurer’s report showed total financial assets as of October 31 as $1,253.41. This was an unusual month with expenses for the post office box, the website, and AVA charges, so the checking balance is $1198.41.
YREs: There was one walker at the Belton YRE. Carol invited club members to lead a YRE. In December the directions for all the YREs will be revised for 2025, and feedback on the upcoming special programs (such as Where the Wild Things Are) would be helpful. Terry reminded everyone that there will be an #OptOutside walk on November 29 at the Pflugerville Recreation Center, the site for the YRE start in Pflugerville.
Announcements: Jo Anne Fries is in a rehab hospital. Mary Blackstock will be 98 on November 5. Terry will send her a birthday card. Martin Callahan’s little white dog, Winston, has died; walkers will remember Winston from the Moya Park walk and other walks.
Several club members were at the Gonzales and New Braunfels walks.
The Rockport walking weekend will include the TVA meeting. Several club members ae going, and Terry will be the club’s voting representative.
Bastrop State Park walk: Stephanie led the discussion of the November 16 walk to be held in Bastrop State Park. Everyone will register at The Roadhouse, but walkers will have the option of driving into the park to start or they may walk in from The Roadhouse. (The walk in and out does count for distance.) Then everyone will return to The Roadhouse to hand in their yellow start card and get their stamps. The Roadhouse will offer bathrooms early.
There will be three trails: a 5K that begins at The Roadhouse, a 5K that begins at the Golf Shelter (both walks rated 1A) and another 5K that is more challenging (2B) that can be added onto either of the easy 5Ks. There is one checkpoint, and the 10K walkers will go to the checkpoint twice.
There will be a second workers’ walk, probably mid-week the week of November 11. There will be an email to the membership soon with the information for the workers’ walk. Workers for the first shift at the Bastrop State Park should plan to arrive at 7:30 am on November 16.
The December meeting will be Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 3 pm at the Central Market Cafe.
Meeting adjourned at 4:07 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Terry Sullivan
Secretary-Treasurer
