Our club’s next traditional walk will be at Richard Moya Park in south Austin on September 28th. Carol Obianwu took the picture above at the park in July. We will enjoy getting back to this lovely park with the majestic pecan trees!

Terry reviewed the expenses for July, including annual dues to AVA and TVA, the second quarter YRE participation fees, 2025 sanction fees for all YREs and Richard Moya Park, and the fee for printing additional checks.
Linda Dennis reported 1 walker for the Historic Capitol walk, for $4 fees and $1 donation.
BUSINESS
- The Richard Moya Park walk will be September 28. There will be a checkpoint for the 10K at the MillionAire FBO (private aviation site) near the south terminal. There is also a veterans’ memorial on the 10K. The Moore’s Crossing Bridge, which is on the trail for 5K and 10K, is of particular historical interest. There will be a sign-up sheet and further discussion at the September 9 meeting. Members were encouraged to take the flyers to post with senior centers, veterans’ sites, and similar places. Greg offered to seek some publicity with AARP and the Austin Chronicle. Carol is taking charge of this walk.
- November 16 will be the walk at Bastrop State Park. Stephanie is taking charge.
- Mike Frew will become the point of contact for the Georgetown, Belton, and Salado YREs. Mike was thanked. The filling station that is the start point in Belton is being bought by another firm, so we will need to watch for coming changes. Because of ongoing construction along other trails, members are encouraged to notify Carol if there are any obstructions to a YRE trail.
- The Wild Things is a new special program for 2025. Gnomes, fairies, trolls, and gargoyles count for the walk to be included in the special program. Carol asked everyone to help look for qualifiers on YRE routes. Besides lawn gnomes, there are also lawn gargoyles that would count. This is the only new special program for 2025.
- On the Pflugerville YRE route, the labyrinth has been removed, so we will not be able to continue to list this special program for this YRE in 2025.
- There was a discussion of the OnLine Start Box. The major problem seems to be keeping the directions accessible given the short battery life of phones.
- Carol will send the current Checkpoint to the members with this month’s minutes. The processing of distance and event books is changing. Henceforth we will take pictures of our books to email in. Details are in Checkpoint.
- The AVA cruise deposit deadline has been delayed to the end of the month. The cruise will leave from New Orleans and will occur in November 2025. Besides walks in New Orleans, there will also be walks in four ports of call.
- Three San Antonio clubs are merging and the new club will be the San Antonio Pathfinders.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:00.
Respectfully submitted,
Terry Sullivan
Secretary-Treasurer
