We’re in the thick of summer, and that means “Summer Sunrise” walks!
Several Colorado River Walkers participated in the San Marcos Sunrise walk on June 22nd, and the pictures in this post were taken on that walk. Above is a mural by the town square, and there are a few more pictures at the bottom of this post.

BUSINESS
- The Ruidoso walks have been moved to February 14-16, 2025. The earlier dates were canceled because of the recent forest fires.
- TAW is now on the internet and no longer in print format. Members should read it online.
- CRW Summer Sunrise Walk on Saturday, July 20: Carol passed the flyers around. The start point will be at the Austin HS tennis court parking lot. The route needs to be adjusted from the YRE route because of the different start point. Mary will bring tables, water, and snacks.
- Mike Frew has agreed to take over the three YRE boxes that Deb P formerly covered (Georgetown, Belton, Salado).
- YREs need to be entered in the AVA database by the end of August.** There is a new special program for 2025 called Where the Wild Things Are (gargoyles, trolls, gnomes, fairies). We will look over the current YRE routes to see if we can identify any of these wild things. Club members, please help identify these wild things if you see any of them on our YRE routes. For example, there is a Troll in Pease Park and gargoyles on the Driskill Hotel.
- Carol sent a card to Nancy Jacobs, who has been in a rehab hospital.
- Any club member is welcome to write an article for TAW. This month’s deadline is July 25.
- There was a discussion of the online start box.
- Stephanie talked about Bastrop State Park for our November 16 walk. Renting the Refectory costs $300. There is a nearby playground with picnic tables that could be used for free as a start point, although it runs some risk of bad weather. There is parking close by. Stephanie wants to get the date and location on the AVA website.
- Stephanie has been working with Kyle Parks, which has a website that lists rental fees for their facilities. Rates are higher if you do not live in Kyle. Although there are some promising trails under development, they are not yet completed.
- We currently don’t have a site for the September 28 traditional walk. Terry moved and Larry seconded a motion to hold the September walk at Moya Park. Motion passed unanimously.
- Stephanie volunteered to update our YRE descriptions with AVA.
Meeting adjourned at 7:10 to eat cake to celebrate the birthdays of Carol (July 8), Terry (July 9), and Greg (July 13). Larry also brought roses.
Respectfully submitted,
Terry Sullivan
Secretary-Treasurer
**Post-meeting discovery: The AVA website indicates that the deadline to edit YRE listings for Start Point is October 1. Edited events must be saved and made public to have the changes appear in the book.

We’re leaving you with this final image – a mural of a kitten that was in a side alley right off the San Marcos town square!
