National Walking Week is Next Week

There are walking opportunities every day next week in Central Texas!

National Walking Week is next week, April 1st through the 7th, but this year we are extending it to include an Eclipse Walk on April 8th. Below is a list of the walks happening in the Central Texas area next week, and you can download a PDF of this list at the bottom of this post. Come join us!

Monday, April 1

Fredericksburg, Texas – Registration is at Marktplatz Kinder Halle (the closest intersection is Austin and Crocket) next to the playground.

Tuesday, April 2

Boerne, Texas – Registration at Comfort Inn, 35000 IH-10W, Boerne, TX 78006. At the start point, choose from one of three available walks: Cemetery (6k/10k), Cibolo Wilderness (6k/10k), or Downtown (6k/10k).

Wednesday, April 3

San Antonio, Texas – Friedrich Wilderness Park YRE 0411, 21395 Milsa Dr.  This is a popular park, so arrive early (7:30 am) for a parking spot; otherwise, park alongside the road. Hiking boots, poles, and water are recommended. Multiple distances to choose from. NOTE: If it rains the upper trails will close.

Thursday, April 4

San Antonio, Texas – Salado Creek Trail at 1604 YRE 2845, 3104 N Loop 1604 W, San Antonio, TX 78231. Two 5k routes (combine them for 10k). Easy.

Friday, April 5

San Antonio, Texas – Eisenhower Park, 19399 N.W. Military Hwy, 78257. 5k/11k; the 11k is a hilly hike on rough terrain, rated 2C. This lovely natural area with improved trails goes through traditional hill country scenery. An observation tower is at the summit. Hiking sticks, water, a sun hat, and hiking boots are recommended. Bathrooms available. Dogs on leash only. A 3 km loop on pavement is uphill but suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.

Saturday, April 6

San Antonio, Texas – Japanese Tea Garden – Traditional, 3853 N. St. Mary’s St., San Antonio. Registration, directions, and stamp will be at the Japanese Tea Garden. 5k -The Japanese Tea Garden is a lovely historic park built in an old rock quarry. Waterfalls, water lilies, a new restaurant; the Tea Garden has much to offer. You will also walk in Brackenridge Park. The 10k walk adds Trinity University and the lovely Monte Vista neighborhood. NOTE: This event has rock stairs and uneven footing; walk carefully.

Monday, April 8

San Antonio, Texas – Total Eclipse Walk TRAD, 17008 IH-10 West near the Marquis The Rim Apartments. This is a traditional walk event on the eclipse day, starting at the Marquis Trail Head. Eclipse glasses available for purchase at the walks as supplies last.
