Our Colorado River Walkers club is featuring our Lady Bird Lake Year Round Event (YRE) as one of the Summer Sunrise walks this coming Saturday, July 2nd.
Just like last summer, we will have the Start/Finish at the Lorraine “Grandma” Camacho Activity Center at 35 Robert T Martinez Jr Street, Austin, TX 78702. Please note that this is NOT the regular start point for this YRE.
We will be at the Camacho center to help walkers register and stamp books from 7:00 am to 10:00 am. There are restrooms and water available at the Camacho center, and more restrooms and water fountains are at about the 3k and 8k points on the route.
The walk routes are 6/10k and have beautiful sights of downtown Austin from the trail along the lake. The pictures in this post were taken last summer on our LBL Summer Sunrise walk.
We have also added a new, shorter route for our event this year!
This year, because of the heat, we are offering a shorter route in addition to the 6/10k routes around the lake. This new route stays on the north side of the lake and is 4.8 km. Over half of this shorter route follows the hike and bike trail along the lake, but instead of circling Lady Bird Lake, it makes a loop to include some pretty neighborhood streets with older homes near the Start/Finish. If walkers don’t want to do the full 4.8 km, there are multiple shortcuts that they can take to return to the Start/Finish for a shorter distance.
Driving directions to the Start/Finish are:
Exit I35 just north of the river, at either Cesar Chavez St. or Holly St. Travel EAST for 1.5 km. Turn right on Robert Martinez and drive to end of street, about .7 km., to park to the right of the activity center.
Please see the map below:

You can download our updated flyer below.
We’ll leave you with a few more pictures of the shady trail around the lake.

We hope to see you there!
