Maury Maverick Jr. Library Walk on Nov 20th

The San Antonio Pathfinders will be featuring their Maury Maverick Jr. Library Walk this coming Saturday, November 20th. This walk is a Year Round Event, but club members will be at the Nani Falcone Community Park on Saturday from 8:00 to 11:00 am to register walkers.

The walk start point for next Saturday is the Nani Falcone Community Park near the playground, and the address is 8701 Mystic Park, San Antonio, TX, 78254.

This is an easy walk (rated 1A) that goes through quiet neighborhoods and is mostly on paved sidewalks.

Maury Maverick Jr. passed away in 2003. His very interesting obituary describes his impressive career as a lawyer, legislator, professor and journalist, as well as the history of his prominent family.

His great-grandfather’s name was the origin of the term “maverick,” meaning “independently minded,” as the obituary explains:

One of Texas’ largest landowners, Samuel Augustus Maverick was an indifferent rancher who, contrary to custom, neglected to brand his longhorn cattle. After stumbling across an unmarked animal, cowboys would say, “That’s a maverick.” Soon, the label extended to human nonconformists as well.

The weather should be perfect for walking this weekend, so we hope that you can get out and enjoy this walk!
