Reminder – Violet Crown Trail via Dick Nichols Park walk on Sep 25th

This coming Saturday, September 25th, our Colorado River Walkers club will be hosting the “Violet Crown Trail via Dick Nichols Park” walk in southwest Austin.

These pictures were taken recently on the portion of the route that both the 5k and 10k walkers will be traversing. The shady paths on the Violet Crown Trail provided a welcome break from the summer heat we have been experiencing. We are hoping that this fall cold snap will stick around long enough to make walking a little nicer this weekend!

The walk route also goes through some pleasant neighborhoods.

The 10k walkers also go by the Learning Tree, shown below. When we last walked by it, a woman there said that there is a family of owls that lives up in the tree.

Another highlight of the 10k route is that it goes by the late Mary Helen Quinn‘s house, and walkers have the opportunity to enter her back yard. She was a well loved member of our club, and an avid gardener and naturalist.

Below are a few pictures of Mary Helen. The first was taken on a group walk of our Salado Year Round Event in January of 2020.

The next picture was taken in December of 2017, and shows, left to right, Jean, Mary Helen and Carol.

What a great picture!
