Tour de las Misiones walk on Sat, Sep 11th

The San Antonio Pathfinders walking club will be facilitating a “Tour de las Misiones” volksmarch on Saturday, September 11th, in conjunction with the World Heritage Festival Tour de las Misiones 2021.

The festival is a multi-day event celebrating the San Antonio Missions, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Registration for this event was handled in advance, and the event is currently sold out, but the San Antonio Pathfinders club has several Year Round Events (YREs) that can be walked independently throughout the year that include the San Antonio Missions Trail. The YREs are:

Mission Concepcion and Mission Reach Hike Trail

Mission San Jose to Mission Concepcion

Mission San Jose to Mission San Juan

Mission San Juan to Mission Espada

The picture above, as well as the others in this post, were taken this morning by Colorado River Walker Stephanie K. on a “workers walk” of the 5k route that will be walked this coming Saturday on the Tour de las Misiones walk.

The photo above shows the Mission Reach trail that goes along the San Antonio River, and the next photo is of the CoCobijos sculpture near the walk start/finish at Mission Parks Pavilion.

The next two pictures were taken at the ruins of the Hot Wells Hotel and Bathhouse.

The last set of pictures are from the San Jose Mission compound and visitor center.

A plaque at the Mission San Jose Visitor Center stating that the San Antonio Missions has been designated a world heritage site.

This is a beautiful area for walking, and, as the plaque above states, the San Antonio Missions site is among “a select list of protected areas around the world whose outstanding natural and cultural resources form the common inheritance of all humankind.”
