Lady Bird Lake YRE Sunrise Event on Aug 28th

The Colorado River Walkers club will feature the Lady Bird Lake Year Round Event (YRE) as a “Summer Sunrise” walk on Saturday, August 28th. The photo above was taken in May of 2020, and it shows, from left to right, Mary, Rick, Doug, Carol, Frank and Larry on the boardwalk portion of the Lady Bird Lake YRE.

The flyer for the Summer Sunrise event can be downloaded here:

We have decided to start the walk at the Lorraine “Grandma” Camacho Activity Center at 35 Robert T Martinez Jr Street, Austin, TX 78702.  Please note that this is NOT the regular start point for this YRE. We will be at the Camacho center to help walkers register and stamp books from 7:00 am to 9:30 am.  There are restrooms available at the Camacho center and also along the walk route.

Below is a picture of the Camacho center; plenty of parking is available to the right of the center.

Driving directions:

Exit I35 just north of the river, at either Cesar Chavez St. or Holly St. Travel EAST for 1.5 km. Turn right on Robert Martinez and drive to end of street, about .7 km., to park to the right of the activity center. Map is below for reference.

The walk routes are 6/10k and have beautiful sights. A new art/interactive installation “Territories” has recently been installed along the route. The picture below shows some of the tubes and ropes that make an interesting outdoor jungle gym of sorts.
