LBJ State Park YRE on Sat, Jul 10th

On Saturday, July 10th, the Fredericksburg club will be featuring their LBJ State Park and National Historical Park YRE near Stonewall, Texas.  This is one of the “Summer Sunrise” events, with staff at the walk start point to register walkers at 7:30 am.

The Lyndon B. Johnson State Park in Stonewall is about 60 miles from Austin on 290 going west through Johnson City.  This state park is directly across the Pedernales River from the LBJ Ranch.  The official park website confirms there is NO entrance fee for this State Park.  The State Park Visitor Center contains memorabilia from President Johnson’s presidency and interactive displays about the Land and People that shaped a president.

The photo above of Hal and Jean B. was taken last year at this walk, as well as the one below.

For the details on this walk, go to the AVA Event Search page and search for events in Texas. Then scroll down to “Stonewall, TX.”

The walk offers distances of 5km, two different 10km, and 20km. The longer distances include the National Historical Area (the LBJ Ranch and Texas White House Complex). Much of the walk route is alongside the picturesque Pedernales River. The trail also passes through a re-created circa 1915 farm and past natural areas. Bison, longhorns and wildflowers are all part of the panorama. The walks are mostly unshaded, so bring water and a hat.

We highly recommend the LBJ State Park walk, but in case you can’t make it out to Stonewall on Saturday, there will also be a walking opportunity in south Austin. Carol O. will be walking at Dick Nichols Park at 8011 Beckett Road.  She’ll start at the park at 8:00 am on Saturday and walk about a 5k distance.

We hope that you can take this opportunity to get out and enjoy a morning walk tomorrow, rain or shine!
