Celebrate National Walking Week April 1-7

Celebrate National Walking Week April 1-7

The American Heart Association has designated the first Wednesday in April as National Walking Day each year.  The idea is to encourage people to walk at least 30 minutes on that day… and to keep it up for a healthier life.

This year, National Walking Day is on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, and the Colorado River Walkers will be hosting a walk of our newly revised Round Rock Year Round Event to celebrate.  Mary Zeitler will be at the Baca Center at 301 West Bagdad in Round Rock on the 7th from 9am to 11am to register walkers.  Please see the brochure below for all the details.

Also, America’s Walking Club (AVA) has taken National Walking Day a step further and will be celebrating National Walking Week from April 1st through April 7th this year.  Walking events are being organized around the country during this time, and you can look for a walk in your area here: National Walking Week – AVA. Just scroll down to the bottom to click on your state.

There will be a traditional walk in Comfort, Texas, on Saturday, April 3rd, but if you can’t make it there, Colorado River Walkers club member, Charles Rogers, will lead a group walk of our Salado Year Round Event.  He will be starting at 9am from the Holiday Inn Express in Salado.  Depending on walkers’ preferences, they may split into two or more groups, as some may want to do the 5k or the 10k, and paces may differ. That’s the beauty of a volksmarch – it can be a leisurely stroll to take in the sights, or a faster-paced workout.

We hope that everyone can get out and do some walking this week!
