The weather is beautiful, and even though we can’t go on any group walks, Colorado River Walkers are still out walking on their own in their neighborhoods. Theresa Bayoud, one of our club members, sent me this beautiful picture of a Summer Tanager that she took earlier this month at Mills Pond Park in north Austin, an area where she goes walking.
I searched for more information about Mills Pond, and I found out that it is in Wells Branch, a neighborhood on the north side of Austin and just west of Pflugerville. The Wells Branch Hike and Bike Trail circles this park and another park to the south, Katherine Fleischer Park.
The Wells Branch MUD maintains Mills Pond Park. It is a popular spot, and the pond attracts a variety of waterfowl and wildlife. The park is dog friendly, but dogs must be on a leash at all times. I looked online and found some great pictures of Mills Pond on yelp. You can view them by clicking on the link below:
This appears to be yet another hidden gem in the Austin area!
