There is going to be a great walking opportunity tomorrow, Saturday, Nov 16th, in Lakeway, Texas. The walk is taking place in the Lakeway Canyonlands Greenbelt. The Lakeway Parks and Recreation Department and Friends of the Parks of Lakeway are hosting this event, with music and food following the walk.
The city of Lakeway is about 40 miles north west of Austin and is located on Lake Travis. The area is very scenic. It is on the edge of the Hill Country and right on the lake. To check out Lakeway parks and trails, see https://www.lakeway-tx.gov/125/Parks-Trails
Our walking club has hosted walks in Lakeway in years past, with the walk routes centering around the Hamilton and Smith Greenbelts. This coming walk on Nov. 16th is on the Canyonlands Greenbelt, and it includes an optional hike up to the top of Mount Lakeway with beautiful views all around.
The event is taking place from 12:00 to 4:30 PM and is FREE! This is not a sanctioned volksmarch, so you won’t be earning IVV credit. However, it is like a volksmarch in that it is non-competitive, and walkers can walk at their own pace so they can enjoy the views. All are welcome, including dogs, and walkers are encouraged to bring water and wear hiking or comfortable walking shoes.
The routes offered are a 3 mile trail in the Canyonlands and a 6 mile roundtrip to the top of Mount Lakeway. Escorted walks to Mount Lakeway start at 12:30 and 1:00 PM.
ALSO… There will be live music from 2:00 to 3:30 and a free snack at the finish!
